The story

Maison Cluny: A Parisian Bistrot with Michelin Recognition in the 5th Arrondissement

Maison Cluny is a Parisian bistrot that knows what it is. A "bistrot chic" in the 5th arrondissement, it sits between the Sorbonne and the Musée de Cluny, an address that feels both central and quietly its own. The team behind it, Franck Bellanger and Matthieu Nadjar, spent a decade running Le Cornichon, named the best Parisian bistrot by the guide Lebey in 2013. Here, they have created something even more convivial.

The cooking is French with Mediterranean accents — the owners describe it as "traditionnelle revisitée." The menu, built around fresh, seasonal produce, changes regularly. Expect dishes like a socca, fried to order and golden; a porchetta of suckling pig; and a "tartufo" gouda aged with truffle. Crunchy éperlans (smelts) spiced with smoked chili are the kind of snack you keep reaching for.

The restaurant offers a private salon and a terrace, and is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday. Michelin, which lists Maison Cluny among its recommended addresses, recognizes the quality of what Bellanger and Nadjar are doing. The setting is elegant but unstuffy, and the cooking is direct — you taste the ingredients, not the ego.
