The story

Mazali Paris: An Evolving Seasonal Bistro Near Gare de Lyon

The Kitchen and Leadership

Mazali Paris operates as a seasonal bistro where former journalist Claire Nicot and chef Matthieu Révol guide the kitchen. Révol brings over a decade of professional experience to a menu that honors traditional techniques while weaving in subtle global influences. This deliberate approach earned the venue a spot on the 2026 Le Fooding list, recognizing how the team balances robust meals with lighter options for every appetite. The kitchen treats portion sizes as flexible elements rather than fixed standards.

Signature Plates and Techniques

Guests often begin with a chilled pork and hazelnut terrine accompanied by thin slices of cured coppa. The black sesame prawn tartare arrives alongside a gently heated coconut milk bisque that adds depth without overwhelming the seafood. Main courses feature a pepper-crusted flank steak resting beside young potatoes and oyster mushrooms. A final course typically highlights a delicate cream puff crowned with crisp craquelin and filled with peach nectarine custard.

Dining Space and Location

The interior maintains a consistently warm and inviting layout that encourages relaxed conversation between courses. Small bistro tables sit close enough to capture the energy of the service staff moving through the room. Natural light fills the space during daytime service, while evening hours bring a quieter focus to the plates themselves. Just steps from Reuilly Diderot metro station, the location serves as a practical anchor for locals seeking classic bistro fare without rigid formalities.

There’s no plov or laghman on the menu at Mazali, despite the name meaning “delicious” in Uzbek… In their restaurant located in a part of Paris that’s a virtual culinary dessert, Matthieu Révol (ex-Le Sergent Recruteur) in the kitchen and former journalist Claire Nicot in the dining room carefully cater to both voracious appetites and those who eat like a bird. Seated at one of the bistro tables the night we went, we had all of the following: classically prepared pork and hazelnut terrine paired with coppa; black sesame prawn tartare served with a warm coconut milk bisque; mouthwatering pepper-marinated flank steak served with new potatoes and oyster mushrooms; flash-seared octopus and black rice shaken up by a curry / coconut / spinach sauce; and to round out the meal, a crunchy craquelin-topped cream puff filled with a peach-nectarine cream and paired with a generous scoop of raspberry sorbet. All available in portion sizes that can be adjusted to suit your appetite. // Maria Hamonic
