The story

Mischief Paris: A Playful Bistro Where Childhood Comforts Meet Global Flavors

The Kitchen and Its Creator

Chef Erica Paredes leads Mischief, a playful Parisian bistro tucked into the Marais district. She launched the project through intimate supper clubs and pop-ups before securing her permanent address near Rue des Gravilliers. Her culinary path across multiple continents shapes a menu that treats familiar comfort food with deliberate experimentation. Le Fooding recently highlighted the spot as a major seasonal return, praising how she amplifies nostalgic recipes without losing their original warmth.

Plates That Redefine Comfort

The current lineup leans into bold cross-cultural pairings that keep diners guessing. Fried chicken arrives glazed with a rich butter chicken sauce, while a charred corn salad gets finished tableside with torched trout and eel sauce. Homestyle spaghetti o’s swim in a deep tomato base fortified with anchovy and bone marrow, then top off with crisp parmesan shards.

The Dining Room and Counter

Artpill Studio shaped the interior around a sweeping oval counter that wraps directly behind the open kitchen. Terracotta tones ground the space while keeping sightlines clear for watching plating techniques. Seating remains intentionally compact to encourage sharing, which aligns perfectly with the modern bistro’s emphasis on communal dining.

The most hotly anticipated comeback of the season. Erica Paredes, whose every move we adored at Reyna and Mokoloco, has finally unleashed her playful magic in the heart of the upper Marais. Set in a visually seductive, terracotta-toned space designed by Artpill Studio (disco ball in the restroom, a sweeping oval counter wrapped around the open kitchen), the chef revisits the flavors of her childhood, brilliantly transforming them into world comfort food with serious swagger. The other evening, while the room buzzed about the fried chicken with butter chicken sauce, we went ga-ga for the Mexican street food-inspired corn salad slathered in mayo, served with crunchy totopo chips and topped with chunks of trout that the chef torched right before very our eyes, then glossed with a thick eel sauce; delicious homemade spaghetti O’s swimming in a dangerously good tomato sauce built on an anchovy and bone marrow base, crowned with decadent parmesan crisps; and, to finish, a sublime Basque cheesecake hiding a molten core of peanut butter and Muscat grape jam. Our eyes kept wondering, too, toward the show-stopping tomahawk steak (1.3 kilos, thank you very much), buried under melted Roquefort and served with charred cherry tomatoes and matchstick fries.
