The story

Mokochaya: Modern Asian Brunch and Bento Boxes in Paris

The kitchen and its founders

Mokochaya presents modern Asian cuisine and weekend brunch in Paris' eleventh arrondissement. Moko Hirayama and Omar Koreitem guide the kitchen after founding their previous bakeries, Mokonuts and Mokoloco. This consistent quality recently secured a listing in the 2026 Le Fooding guide. Guests encounter a quiet rhythm of carefully plated meals that span early morning coffee through lunch hours.

Lunch service and signature plates

The midday service highlights Asian cooking through bento boxes arranged along a shared wooden counter. A standard portion pairs slow-cooked salmon with sesame potato salad and crisp raw carrots. Shaved red cabbage and rice dusted with red shiso form the foundation. Halved soft-boiled eggs sit atop each box to add richness.

The room and sweet offerings

Vases of fresh blooms and organic light fixtures brighten the open dining floor. Patrons naturally cluster around the large central table while servers move through the space. The pastry display draws attention with dark chocolate fleur de sel cookies and miso sesame rounds. Financiers, madeleines, and a preserved lemon flan round out the Saturday brunch lineup.

Good things always come in threes, so it’s no surprise that the Moko family has welcomed a new member to its ranks! Already the proud parents of Mokonuts and Mokoloco , Moko Hirayama and Omar Koreitem are happy to introduce you to the baby of the family, a cross between a bistro and a tearoom. On the big communal table, surrounded by vases of fresh flowers and organic light fixtures, a series of thrilling bento boxes file out at lunchtime, served with care: slow-cooked salmon tucked into some sesame potato salad, crisp and tangy raw carrots, shaved red cabbage, rice sprinkled with red shiso and half a soft-boiled egg. If you want something to satisfy your sweet tooth, it’s hard to pass up Moko’s iconic cookies (dark chocolate and fleur de sel, chocolate and peanut, miso and sesame), which now fight for glory alongside a selection of financiers, madeleines and scones, not to mention a few more elaborate desserts – which, the day we went, included a silky Japanese-style preserved lemon flan. Got the morning munchies? The duo pampers customers starting at breakfast, with brunch options for those who like to sleep in on Saturdays (a main course, vegetable-heavy sides, hot and cold beverages). · Roberto Arenales
