Olive Chicken Paris: Seoul-Style Fried Korean Cuisine | wattafork

The Seoul connection

Olive Chicken brings modern Korean cooking to a compact Montparnasse address near Rue Poinsot. Owner Max Si adapted recipes from family-run eateries across the ocean for this neighborhood spot. Le Fooding recognized this straightforward approach when listing the venue for 2026. Every plate prioritizes authentic seasoning over decorative plating.

Fiery preparations

Yangnyeom features deboned chicken coated in a garlic and gochujang mixture that generates noticeable heat. Magma wings follow a similar path with dried chili sauce applied generously. Tteokkochi rounds out the savory plates with fried rice cakes glazed in sweet soy sauce. Haricots verts tempura offers a lighter counterpoint dressed with lime and a Korean-style white mayonnaise.

Compact surroundings

Cream-colored walls and exposed Edison bulbs define the interior layout. The space holds only a few tables arranged for both indoor dining and outdoor seating. Visitors typically collect their orders quickly at this dedicated takeaway location. The narrow footprint keeps service efficient while letting the food speak for itself.

A poultry dealer who’s well known to expats from the Land of Morning Calm, Max Si is now keeping the Montparnasse neighborhood well fed at his tasty Korean eatery! In this tiny spot with elegant decor (cream-colored walls, Edison bulbs, a few tables both inside and out), the neo-chef sets mouths ablaze with fried chicken recipes imported from Seoul’s family-run restaurants, beloved for their ability to make you sweat. Devoured the other day at lunch: a lovely appetizer of haricots verts tempura refreshed with lime, plus a Korean-style white mayonnaise for dipping; then a heady cone of yangnyeom, aka pieces of deboned chicken doused in a garlic and gochujang (a red chili paste) concoction, along with an incendiary row of magma wings covered in dried chili sauce; before a skewer of tteokkochi, those fried sticky rice cakes that are so emblematic of Korean street food, caramelized here in a spicy soy sauce that was a little too sweet for our tastes – though incredibly mouthwatering nonetheless. // Pica Bidon
