The story

Osteria Ferrara – Traditional Italian Restaurant in Paris 11th

A Room with a Past

The building at 7 rue du Dahomey carries more history than most. Once a gathering point for Italian anarchists, it was transformed into a bistrot by a cabinetmaker in 1932, and that layered character still shapes the atmosphere today. Osteria Ferrara occupies this address with an easy confidence — a place where charm is inherited rather than designed.

Fabrizio and the Spirit of Caffè dei Cioppi

The restaurant grew out of an earlier venture, the Caffè dei Cioppi, whose reputation Fabrizio built over years. At Osteria Ferrara, he found the space to go further. As the restaurant puts it, his imagination has "finally found the place to better express itself and reveal the deep richness of Italian cuisine." The move was less a reinvention than an expansion — the same warmth and conviviality, with more room to explore what traditional Italian cooking can be in a Parisian setting.

Italian Cuisine, Taken Seriously

Osteria Ferrara is straightforwardly committed to Italian cuisine, and that focus shows. There is no fusion, no concession to trend — just the depth and range of a culinary tradition that rewards attentiveness. Gambero Rosso, Italy's foremost food and wine authority, recognised the restaurant with 2 Forks in 2023, a distinction that speaks to authenticity and consistent quality rather than spectacle.

Convivialité as a Guiding Principle

Fabrizio and his team describe their work as writing "day after day a new chapter of a very beautiful story of conviviality and sharing." That phrase could read as marketing, but at Osteria Ferrara it maps onto something real: a room open to private parties and privatisations, accessible to guests with reduced mobility, and run with the kind of attentiveness that makes Italian cuisine feel like hospitality rather than performance.

Naked stone walls, chic bistro furniture, varnished woodwork, old-fashioned tableware, industrial light fixtures… There’s nothing cheesy about Fabrizzio Ferrara’s bistrattoria – it’s the perfect spot for a taste of Italy that’s good for the soul! The day we went, the prix-fixe lunch menu was filled with flavors that had us wanting to come back for more: delicate chicken liver cromesquis intensified by pickled onion; a delicious plate of linguine with fish roe and saffron; before a comforting slice of apple cake served with a scoop of mascarpone cream. But the à la carte selection was equally appealing, featuring for example octopus salad, potato and nettle pressé, or ricotta-squash ravioli with mint and peppery canestrato cheese… Bravissimo! // Ana Kirpad
