The story

Pertinence: Intimate French-Japanese Dining in Paris – Michelin Star

An Intimate Table in the Heart of Paris

Between rue de Grenelle and rue Saint Dominique, near the Fontaine de Mars, Pertinence opened its doors in a former bistrot. With just fourteen seats, it is a deliberately small, discreet address where every detail matters. The setting is intimate and elegant, allowing the cooking to take center stage.

The kitchen is led by Ryunosuke Naito and Kwen Liew, a couple in life and in the kitchen. They met while working at Restaurant Antoine in 2011, under chef Mickaël Féval. Naito’s resume includes stages at Taillevent (three Michelin stars) with Alain Soliverès, at Cheval Blanc and Restaurant 1947 in Courchevel under Yannick Alléno, and as sous-chef at Le Meurice (three stars) during the transition to Alain Ducasse. Liew trained in French cuisine and pastry in France, then honed her skills abroad in Australia and Singapore.

Together, they practice a style of Modern Cuisine that marries French technique with Japanese precision. The result is refined, seasonal cooking that draws out the essence of each ingredient. The menu changes regularly, with options ranging from a three-course lunch (85 €) to a seven-course prestige tasting (220 €), each available with carefully selected wine pairings.

Pertinence earned a Michelin star for its high-quality cooking, a recognition that reflects the chefs’ dedication to balance and subtlety. For those seeking a quietly excellent meal in Paris, this is an address worth seeking out.
