The story

L'Orangerie, Pornic – Bib Gourmand Modern Cuisine in a Light-Filled Setting

L'Orangerie, Pornic

A few steps from the port, in a quiet street off Pornic’s centre, L'Orangerie offers a different pace. Chef Julien Lainé, who trained with Alain Ducasse, Alain Dutournier and Jean-Michel Lorrain, opened this restaurant with a clear vision: to create a menu that is both gastronomic and deeply rooted in the seasons, working with local producers and short supply chains. The result is a refined, flavour-driven modern cuisine that earned the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand – a recognition of its consistent quality and value.

The dining room is light and airy by day, with light streaming through the glass roof. In the evening, the atmosphere turns more intimate, with softer lighting and a sense of occasion. Guests can watch the kitchen at work, adding to the experience.

The menu changes regularly. At lunch, a "Menu Découverte" offers a choice of starter, main and dessert for €38, or a two-course option for €28. Dishes might include a tartare of tomatoes with olive, pine nut and aubergine emulsion, or a suprême of chicken stuffed with mushrooms, served with green asparagus and a poulette sauce. Desserts are equally considered – a Colombian chocolate in varied textures with verbena, or a local Pavé d'Anjou cheese with apricots and a touch of vinegar.

For those who prefer to be surprised, the "Carte Blanche" menu lets the chef guide the meal. Available in four or six services (€48 or €59 per person), it is served until 13:30 at lunch and 21:30 at dinner. Guests simply indicate any allergies or dietary needs and then trust the kitchen’s creativity. Wine pairings are available for both formats.

L'Orangerie’s commitment to local sourcing is not a slogan. Chef Lainé has spent time finding producers along the coast – from the oysters of Dominique Friou to the white asparagus of Anjou – and builds his modern cuisine around what they provide. It is a straightforward, honest approach that delivers real depth of flavour.
