The story
Sylvie Bañuls and her daughter Claire run the kitchen at Un Xic de Tot, a seasonal bistro located in Prades. Claire brings experience from Parisian restaurants while Sylvie draws on her previous work managing El Lluert nearby. They treat their dining room as a collection of small plates meant for sharing, shifting the menu with local harvests and straightforward techniques. Guests typically begin with grilled Brussels sprouts paired with black garlic, smoked haddock, and crispy bacon.
The kitchen blends Mediterranean foundations with unexpected international touches, starting with panko crusted chicken served alongside a sharp sriracha reduction. Mushroom and nori stuffed ravioli simmer in a savory miso broth, arriving with crusty sourdough from Le Barbu Pyrénéen to soak up the liquid. Whole skate fillets follow, dressed with classic sauce grenobloise and a bright herb salad. Sweet endings lean toward citrus rather than heavy cream, featuring a light pavlova layered with blood orange, grapefruit, bergamot, and dried rose petals.
Diners gather on a broad outdoor terrace that captures the full warmth of the Roussillon countryside and frames the sweeping slopes of the Massif du Canigou. Inside, bottle green wall tiles surround the pass where plates move quickly from stove to table. The layout prioritizes the landscape and the food over formal decor. This relaxed bistro setup encourages lingering conversations while watching the afternoon light shift across the stone village.
