The story
In the alpine village of Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe, near Praz-sur-Arly, La Ferme de Victorine is a restaurant rooted in family history. The story begins with Victorine herself, who ran a grocery-bar inside the family farm in 1923. Decades later, in 1991, her grandson James Ansanay-Alex turned a childhood dream into reality, transforming the mountain building into a restaurant that honours that legacy. His parents continued the work before him, and the place remains deeply personal.
The kitchen, now led by M. Vinet, practices a philosophy of “cuisine that speaks to the soul.” Traditional dishes are continuously renewed and modernised, following the rhythm of the seasons. The menu changes four times a year, drawing on local and regional products to highlight the terroir. Expect terrines made in-house, a classic pot-au-feu, fish from nearby lakes, and the essential tartiflette with Reblochon cheese. Two tasting menus are offered: “Au Cœur des Saisons” (53 €) explores the best of each season, while the more elaborate “Promenade Gourmande à la Ferme” (73 €) presents signature creations and innovative plates.
This commitment to honest, high-quality cooking at a fair price earned La Ferme de Victorine a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide. The atmosphere is welcoming and familial, true to its farmhouse origins. For those who want to take a taste home, the restaurant sells a range of preserved goods—terrines, soups, jams, and prepared dishes—in jars. A temporary menu also appears for holidays like Christmas and Easter. It is a place where tradition and invention meet, without pretence, in the heart of the French Alps.
