The story
Le Grand Cerf is a Michelin-starred restaurant in Montchenot, just outside Reims, where chefs Dominique Giraudeau and Pascal Champion have been crafting refined classic cuisine together since 1998. The establishment earned its Michelin star for high-quality cooking that balances tradition with modern precision.
The story began in 1992 when Dominique Giraudeau, a perfectionist who trained alongside Gérard Boyer at Les Crayères and Louis Outhier at L’Oasis, took the helm of this charming auberge. Six years later, he joined forces with Pascal Champion, and the duo has worked side by side ever since, creating dishes built on exceptional ingredients and careful technique.
Their menus change with the seasons. A menu dedicated to truffle showcases that noble product, while signature creations have included a lobster and pear in sweet-sour vinaigrette and a strawberry emulsion with Champagne. The kitchen works with products like blue lobster, crab with celery emulsion and apple jelly, and roasted farm veal.
The wine cellar is a destination in itself, with an extensive selection of Champagnes from houses such as Deutz, Lanson, Bollinger, and Mumm, plus reds from the Rhône and Loire, whites from Alsace and the Loire Valley, and a few rosés. Sommelier Bernard Mantch—known as Max—guides guests through pairings.
The dining room, recently renovated, is warm and welcoming. A private salon accommodates groups from 50, and full buyouts are possible for up to 100 guests. A takeaway service lets you enjoy their cooking at home, with special menus for holidays like Valentine’s Day and New Year’s. Gift vouchers are available, starting at 50 euros.
