The story
Benèze places its Spanish kitchen at the center of Rennes. After leading operations at Roellinger and Altapura, chef Pierre Eon relocated his entire team to a newly restored seventeenth-century hôtel particulier on Place des Lices. The venue name translates to feeling entirely comfortable in regional dialect. Le Fooding added the restaurant to its 2026 guide immediately after the move.
Two compact dining areas frame the experience with unadorned stone walls and a surviving original fireplace. Guests sit at pale oak tables while watching the open bar prepare orders. The layout naturally encourages group dining and shared plates. An uncluttered floor plan keeps sightlines clear across both rooms.
The Spanish menu relies on sharp contrasts and careful layering. A tomato and celery tartare sits beneath a light cloud of siphoned burrata. Carrot soup seasoned with vadouvan holds a perfectly cooked egg suspended in its center. Larger tables trigger scaled preparations like the cult crying tiger steak or XL cannelloni stuffed with pork and lobster. Desserts close the meal with pillowy brioche French toast served beside salted caramel and vanillary crème anglaise.
