The story

Pok in Rennes: Seasonal Market Street Food & Specialty Coffee

The kitchen and the menu

Pok serves seasonal market cuisine in Rennes, grounding its daily offerings around fresh produce and straightforward techniques. Founder Victor Grousset draws on his tenure at Café Ours and Chez les Garçons to shape a kitchen that prioritizes ingredient quality over complexity. This commitment to honest cooking recently secured the venue a listing on the Le Fooding guide for 2026. The team prepares fillings each morning, ensuring every plate reflects what is currently available at regional markets.

Signature sandwiches and pastries

The seasonal street food menu centers on thick slabs of pillowy challah baked locally by Bun’s Baker. Regulars often order the shredded roast chicken sandwich, which combines pesto rosso, creamy tartar sauce, garlic, and a hint of mint between soft bread. A vegetarian alternative features mature cheddar, roasted mushrooms, spinach, and butternut squash dusted with Nomie spices dukkah alongside tarragon mayo. Afternoon cravings are met with granola topped with Breton fromage blanc, dark chocolate, walnuts, and seasonal fruit, plus salted chocolate hazelnut cookies and cinnamon rolls.

The space and coffee program

Pool blue tiles line the interior walls beside dried floral displays that soften the bright dining room. Outdoor tables occupy a sunlit terrace designed for relaxed daytime gatherings. The beverage program partners with Pontivy-based roaster Café 1802 to deliver specialty coffee, ranging from precise espresso shots to rich cappuccinos. Morning guests pair those drinks with fresh juice and sweet breakfast plates that complete their market-driven street food approach.

And Pok! – another coffee shop lands! Just minutes from the Marché des Lices, Pok plants its flags as a new bastion of Rennes cool, decked out with pool-blue tiles, dried flowers and a terrace basking in full UV glory. No cutting corners here – not on the beans (sourced from Breton micro-roaster Café 1802 based in Pontivy), nor on the bread. The house signature, plush, artisanal challah courtesy of Bun’s Baker. At lunchtime, the boss, Victor Grousset (ex-Café Ours and Chez les Garçons), sends out fresh sandwiches with properly joyful fillings, like the one with shredded roast chicken laced with pesto rosso, creamy tartar sauce, garlic and a flicker of mint, all tucked into that pillowy challah. Or the vegetarian knockout, with mature cheddar, roasted mushrooms, butternut squash dusted in dukkah (from Nomie spices), wilted spinach and tarragon mayo. To start – or sweeten the deal – there’s granola heaped with Breton fromage blanc, salted caramel, seasonal fruit, dark chocolate and a tumble of nuts and seeds (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, oats, pumpkin). Plus a salted dark chocolate-hazelnut cookie or a cinnamon roll that means business. · Lasri Racha
