The story
Just 15 minutes from Paris, in the historic centre of Rueil-Malmaison, Ochre is the Michelin-starred restaurant of chef Baptiste Renouard. It has held its star since 2021, a recognition of the precise, personal cooking that Renouard describes as an attempt to “sublimate the best of nature in total respect for the work of small producers.”
The restaurant occupies a handsome house on the rue du Gué. Renouard’s stated aim was to create a place that is refined but above all warm — “as if people were walking straight through the door of my home.” The interiors, he says, are steeped in raw materials that mirror the sensibility of his cooking.
That cooking is modern cuisine, driven by seasonality and personal memory. The menu changes each season according to what is available and the chef’s inspiration. Renouard’s creations are presented as narratives: each dish is the story of an encounter, a memory, a fragrance, a colour or a poem. These are offered through a choice of tasting menus named Fable, Épopée, and Sentiers (the last a vegetarian option).
Sommelier Théotime Dordain works alongside the chef, proposing subtle and atypical food and wine pairings. The experience is designed to be one of presence — “enjoy the present moment under the attentive eye of the Ochre team.”
