The story

Le Grand Saint-Benoît – Bib Gourmand in Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire, France

A culinary stop in Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire

In the centre of the village of Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire, just 45 minutes from Orléans, Le Grand Saint-Benoît welcomes guests for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, and Sunday lunch. The restaurant describes itself as “a culinary journey between traditional recipes and gastronomic cooking” – a phrase that captures the kitchen’s balance of classic French technique and seasonal, market-driven ingredients.

The team here has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, an award that recognises good quality, good value cooking. That recognition is evident in the care given to each dish, from the smoked pork fillet with peas and rocket to the half-cooked salmon with avocado cream, radish and beetroot. The menu is built around a clear, tempting structure: a lunchtime formule at €32 (starter/main or main/dessert, Tuesday to Friday) and a full menu at €43 (€48 on Sundays and holidays).

Signature dishes and local sourcing

Among the standouts on the main menu, the “Escalopes Croustillantes de Ris de Veau, Jus Dissocié” – crispy veal sweetbreads with a separated jus – is the restaurant’s signature plate, also available at €39 as a single dish. The kitchen also offers a Quasi de Veau Basse Température (low-temperature veal rump) with onion-cumin sauce, and a Barbue meunière with parsley and green asparagus. Desserts change with the season: an apricot and rosemary tartlet, a coffee-chocolate-hazelnut creation, or a selection of house-made sorbets and seasonal fruits. A cheese trolley from the affineur “O Délice du Corbeau” adds a classic finish.

The atmosphere is refined but relaxed, with air conditioning for comfort, outdoor seating for warmer days, and wheelchair access. Le Grand Saint-Benoît also hosts private events and offers a takeaway service. The restaurant’s own words – “traditional recipes and gastronomic cuisine” – sum up what makes it a rewarding stop in the Loire Valley.
