The story

La Gaffe: Modern Cuisine on the Port of Saint-Florent, Corsica

A restaurant born from the sea

Since 1973, La Gaffe has anchored itself on the port of Saint-Florent, a stone’s throw from the fishing boats. The setting is intimate and relaxed, with outdoor seating that lets the dolce vita atmosphere of the harbour wash over the meal. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and air-conditioned inside, balancing comfort with the Corsican coast.

Chef Yann Le Scavarec

Yann Le Scavarec first fell for the island fifteen years ago, and his cooking reflects that enduring love. He worked his way to a Michelin star that he held for ten years; today the restaurant carries a Michelin Recommended distinction, a nod to the precision and creativity he brings to the table. His philosophy: “Conjuguer simplicité & technique, précision & intuition, originalité & tradition.” He builds his modern cuisine around local produce, working closely with regional producers to highlight the best of the season.

From the kitchen to the table

The menu changes with the seasons, but the approach stays constant: audacity, subtlety, and a reverence for ingredients. Dishes navigate between land and sea, with local seafood a recurring thread. A four-course menu (starter, local catch, meat, dessert) sits at €58, while a six-course tasting menu (€90) adds a pre-starter and pre-dessert. For lunch, a three-course menu (€35) offers two choices per course, served Monday to Sunday.

A cellar worth exploring

The wine list is curated to complement the food, featuring both celebrated grands crus and smaller, confidential domains. The restaurant emphasises the link between gastronomy and vine, aiming to put wine back at the heart of the meal.

Learn from the chef

La Gaffe also offers cooking classes with chef Le Scavarec, where guests learn professional techniques and then share a convivial meal of their own creations. The classes are not available during July and August, but the rest of the year they provide a rare chance to step into the chef’s world.
