The story

GAMIN Saint-Nazaire: Michelin-Recommended Modern Cuisine in a Bistrot Setting

A Culinary House in Saint-Nazaire

GAMIN calls itself a maison culinaire — a place to eat and share good products in an attentive, warm, and joyful spirit. Like a second home. This bistrot on boulevard René Coty has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, a recognition that aligns with its thoughtful, ingredient-driven approach.

A Savoury and Committed Cuisine

The kitchen blends gastronomic experience with ecological awareness. The result is a living, nourishing, and relaxed style of modern cuisine. “Living” means adapting to what nature offers, season by season, in pursuit of the best flavours. “Nourishing” means quality, artisanal, mostly local produce — a vegetable-led kitchen where proteins appear with restraint. “Relaxed” means cooking with love and freedom, centred on sharing and pleasure.

This is not a place for fussy plates. The menu changes with the market, and the emphasis is on honest, house-made food that feels both generous and light.

The Atmosphere

GAMIN describes itself as a “lieu de vie” — a living space. The interior photos show a bright, modern room, and the terrace offers outdoor seating. Service is table-service, and the restaurant is wheelchair accessible. Whether you come for lunch or dinner, the mood is one of easy conviviality, backed by a serious commitment to what’s on the plate.

In Saint-Nazaire, GAMIN stands out for its clear philosophy: good products, prepared simply and with care, in a setting that feels like coming home. The Michelin Recommended award confirms what regulars already know.

It’s beautiful, it’s delicious, it’s bursting with heart! Nestled inside a striking 1960s concrete building overlooking the Saint-Nazaire basin, Gamin turns brutalism into balm. Think big picture windows flooding the room with light, sculptural furniture, plush cushions everywhere, polished concrete floors and a ceiling festooned with dangling wheat stalks. At its soul are Bastien and Charlotte Guillochon (ex-L’Arpège and Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York), who are building this place as a family affair, and you can taste the devotion in every forkful. That Monday lunch? A small, edible miracle: tomato salad tangled with Breton gwell cheese and apricots; or cool cucumbers pred with outrageously good tarama and fried eggplant; then came a riot of crunchy green beans and potatoes tossed with mortadella and hemp seeds, siding up to pork belly from Bois Suzin farm – complete with house-made strawberry ketchup for shameless dunking. Meat-free options included zucchini grown by Magali Josso, stuffed with fennel, onion, tomato, Thai basil and parsley, lounging in a cucumber-lettuce sauce, with “bauzarella” (mozzarella crafted in La Baule at Près-Vert farm) drizzled in charred cucumber peel oil; or BBQ-kissed baby gem lettuce with monkfish belly caught by the local Maya small boat. For the sweet finale, peach Melba perfumed with verbena and hemp seed, or apricot frangipane tart served with sunflower ice cream. Sunshine on every plate! · Megan Linar
