The story

BDS Brings Relaxed Coastal Cuisine to Saint-Pierre-Quiberon

From a betting shop to a peninsula staple

BDS in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon offers a relaxed take on coastal cuisine inside a repurposed PMU betting shop. Friends Camille Joly, Valentine Carcano, and Paul Perrault kept the neighborhood spirit while sanding the walls down to reveal a maxi-cozy dining room and an XXL terrace. Le Fooding recognized this gamble on local hospitality in their 2026 listing, noting how the founders replaced standard bar pints with a rotating selection of living wines. The space feels grounded and unpretentious, inviting guests to linger over glasses rather than rush through a meal.

Valentine Carcano and the open kitchen

Valentine Carcano runs the kitchen alongside Julien Tardivel, who previously worked at Le Petit Hôtel du Grand Large. Their lunch service focuses on straightforward plates that tackle the daily grind, like a black pudding terrine paired with a bright lentil salad. Evening menus shift toward sharper contrasts, featuring wrasse ceviche and a slow-cooked shoulder of lamb that relies on patience rather than heavy sauces. Local cuisine here stays practical, letting quality ingredients drive the flavor without unnecessary fuss.

Textures and finishing touches

The cockles arrive swimming in a generous amount of ginger-infused butter, offering a sharp starting point for any table. Skate wing terrine rests beneath a light pepper cream, while veal rillettes get a crisp finish from fresh spring onions. Desserts lean herbal and bright, such as a chocolate lava cake served with chamomile crème anglaise or stewed cherries folded into turmeric whipped cream. Regional cooking at BDS balances richness with acidity, keeping every bite memorable without overwhelming the palate.

Bingo! By gambling on a neighborhood spot – an old PMU betting shop on the Quiberon peninsula that they’ve sanded down like a scratch card, friends Camille Joly, Valentine Carcano and Paul Perrault, who came from the hospitality trade, have sure hit the jackpot: a sports bar 2.0 (hence the name BDS, or bar des sports ) with a maxi-cozy dining room and XXL terrace. It’s the perfect playground for paying a round of living wines rather than flat half pints, while slurping up some cheeky cockles, all wonderfully buttery and zingy with ginger. Ravenous? Valentine and her sidekick Julien Tardivel (ex-Le Petit Hôtel du Grand Large) cook up lunches to conquer the daily grind (black pudding terrine and lentil salad, roast chicken and carrot purée drizzled with a paprika-spiked jus, chocolate lava cake with chamomile crème anglaise) and an evening menu that won’t leave you down in the dumps: skate wing terrine with a pepper cream; veal rillettes and spring onions; wrasse ceviche; beef tataki with a tomato vinaigrette; slow-cooked shoulder of lamb; cherries with lemon and turmeric whipped cream. Looks like the gamble paid off! // Rosa Poulsard
