The story
In the heart of the Loire Valley, L'Escargot has been a fixture on Rue du Maréchal-Leclerc since 1949. What began with a focus on snail farming has evolved into a beloved traditional French restaurant, and its enduring quality has been recognised with a Michelin Recommended distinction. The restaurant is run by a chef with over 40 years of experience, who is also the owner, ensuring a personal touch in every dish.
The menu is a celebration of classic French cuisine, built on fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients. As the name suggests, snails are the signature specialty. Guests can choose traditional escargots farcis in their shells with garlic and parsley, or discover the house's acclaimed "three butters" preparation, sourced from Mr. Raphael Poncet. Beyond the snails, the menu changes regularly and offers a refined take on bistro classics: confit duck leg with rosemary potatoes, a black risotto with basil arlequinade, or roasted skate wing with tapenade oil. The wine list, carefully selected with over 160 references, is designed to complement each course perfectly.
L'Escargot offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere for lunch, dinner, and private events. The setting is both cosy and refined, with a sun-drenched terrace for al fresco dining in warmer months. The restaurant also caters to private parties, offering a dedicated salon for intimate gatherings or the option to privatise the entire space for celebrations. The kitchen also accommodates vegetarian diets, and the restaurant is wheelchair accessible.
