The story
On the left bank of the Cher River, set into the hillside of Savonnières, La Maison Tourangelle occupies an 18th-century priory. The dining room and terrace look out over the water, with a décor that blends rustic stone and tuffeau with clean, contemporary lines.
Chef Frédéric Arnault is a Tourangeau who trained alongside some of France’s great chefs before returning to his native Loire Valley. His cooking is grounded in the region’s produce – livestock, vegetables, wine – and draws on the best from across France. He describes his approach as a game that became a passion: “simple, elegant, inventive execution, with the greatest respect for products and flavours.”
The menus change with the seasons, offering a balance of tradition and reinvention. The carte includes “La Saison” for market-led dishes and “La Vigne” for wine-focused pairings. The kitchen works with foie gras, scallops, lobster, chocolate, and strawberries – all shown in the gallery as plates of clear, precise modern cuisine.
The restaurant’s recognition by the Michelin guide reflects the precision and integrity of Arnault’s cooking. The wine cellar is carved into the rock, holding a curated selection of Loire Valley appellations to accompany the meal.
La Maison Tourangelle is open Wednesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner, with air conditioning, outdoor seating, and wheelchair access.
