The story
In the quiet village of Corbion, just a stone's throw from the Semois river, the Maqua family has been welcoming guests for over 120 years. What began as a small café run by Jules and Eugénie Maqua evolved into a hotel-restaurant in 1909, responding to the needs of travellers discovering the Ardennes. Today, cousins Joan and Stephan Maqua represent the fifth generation at the helm, continuing a story marked by resilience—from wartime hardship to post-war rebuilding—and a steady commitment to hospitality.
The kitchen, now led by Stephan Maqua, focuses on classic French cuisine built around local and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant’s recognition with a Michelin Bib Gourmand speaks to its ability to deliver refined cooking at a reasonable price. A dedicated four-course Bib Gourmand menu, available for two, showcases this philosophy: delicately crafted dishes that let the produce speak, with the option of a carefully selected wine pairing. It is an invitation to savour the flavours of the region without pretension.
The restaurant sits within a family-run hotel surrounded by a large garden, with outdoor seating for warmer months and a play area for children. The atmosphere is one of calm and discretion—a place where the pace slows down. Whether you are stopping for lunch after a walk in the nearby woods or settling in for a longer stay, the aim remains the same: to offer a genuine sense of welcome, passed down through generations.
