The story
Perched at 500 metres on the southern slope of the Chalmont, Auberge Frankenbourg sits in the quiet village of La Vancelle, just outside Sélestat. The inn describes itself as “the auberge of the 21st century” — a place where blond wood beams, exposed stone, and hemp-and-lime walls create an atmosphere of calm. The restaurant’s dining room, along with a cosy rustic lounge and a modern bar, are designed for unhurried meals.
Chef Sébastien Buecher leads the kitchen, crafting modern cuisine that is “audacious and gourmet,” as the restaurant puts it, and always rooted in the seasons and local traditions. The menu changes with the rhythm of the Alsatian countryside. This commitment to quality has earned the restaurant a Michelin star, recognising high-quality cooking in a setting that feels both refined and welcoming.
The Auberge is also a hotel with ten rooms and three contemporary gîtes at the nearby Ferme des Colieuvres, each opening onto the Vosges landscape. Guests can recharge electric vehicles on site and explore hiking and mountain-bike trails that start right at the doorstep. The restaurant’s gift boxes, such as the “Menu La Vancelle” (a seven-course dinner with wines) and the “Longue Échappée” (including an overnight stay and breakfast), invite visitors to extend their stay into a full escape. Whether for a single meal or a longer retreat, Auberge Frankenbourg delivers a serene, flavourful encounter with modern Alsatian hospitality.
