The story
In the village of Itterswiller, between vineyards and half-timbered houses, the Winstub Arnold is the restaurant of the family-run Hôtel Arnold. It sits on the Route des Vins d’Alsace, roughly halfway between Strasbourg and Colmar, and has earned a Michelin recommendation for its straightforward, confident Alsatian cuisine.
The restaurant occupies a classic Alsatian house: timber framing, colourful façade, geraniums at the windows. Inside, the winstub atmosphere is warm and unpretentious – the kind of place where you can linger over a bottle of local wine after a day walking the vines. In good weather, the terrace opens onto the vineyard views.
The kitchen focuses on the region’s culinary traditions, with dishes that change with the seasons. The menu is grounded in the Alsatian repertoire – expect choucroute, baeckeoffe, and tarte flambée, prepared with care and local ingredients. The wine list draws heavily from the surrounding vineyards, and the staff know their producers well.
Winstub Arnold is open for lunch and dinner, Wednesday through Sunday. It also serves breakfast for hotel guests, and can host private events in the dedicated Mariette room. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, and vegetarian options are available.
For a meal that captures the essence of Alsace – generous, seasonal, rooted in place – this winstub delivers exactly what the Michelin guide recognises: honest cooking in a setting that feels like home.
