The story
Quai 17 sits directly on the water in Sète, its dining room a study in bourgeois elegance – think chandeliers and a warm, convivial atmosphere. This is the restaurant of Le Grand Hôtel de Sète, but it stands firmly on its own as a destination for the island city’s finest seafood and Mediterranean cooking.
Since 2005, chef Jean Pascal Hamet has led the kitchen, drawing on twelve years of experience in a well-regarded Sète establishment. His philosophy is straightforward: put the product first. The nearby port and the Bassin de Thau supply the raw materials – oysters, shellfish, fish for the classic Sète-style bourride, and the monkfish that appears with bottarga and artichokes. The signature dish, a lobster risotto, exemplifies this approach: clean, precise, and rooted in the region’s bounty.
Quai 17 has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand since 2017, an award that signals good quality, good value cooking. The restaurant’s appeal is not just the food: the canal-side location, the attentive service, and the ability to host private events or simply enjoy a meal on the outdoor terrace all contribute to an experience that feels both refined and genuinely welcoming. The wine list is carefully chosen to match the seafood-forward menu, and the kitchen’s commitment to freshness is evident in every dish.
