The story
Since 1947, the corner of rue des Pucelles has been home to a beloved Winstub. When it came up for sale in 2024, Mathieu Molteni – a lifelong regular – couldn’t bear to see it close. He brought in his cousin, Michelin-starred chef Alexis Albrecht (of Le Vieux Couvent in Rhinau), to reimagine the place as a true bistrot alsacien. Today, the restaurant serves generous, market-driven cooking that honours the region’s bounty.
Albrecht’s kitchen runs on short supply chains: vegetables from the garden, wild herbs from the Ried, and local meats and fish. The menu changes with the seasons, but you might find brioche with truffles and young Munster, omble de fontaine with leeks and lime butter, or a classic bouchée à la reine with morels and green spätzle. A vegetarian pot-au-feu and a carefully curated wine list – featuring both natural and conventional Alsatian bottles – round out the experience.
The dining room is convivial and fully air-conditioned, with a fresh, colourful décor that keeps the old Winstub soul intact. Pierre Ohmann leads the front-of-house with attentive, characterful service. The Guide Michelin praises the restaurant’s “generous, flavourful dishes made with top-quality ingredients” – a recognition that feels earned rather than sought. Au Coin des Pucelles is a place where Strasbourg’s culinary heritage feels alive, not museumified.
