The story
In the center of Tarbes, at 22 place de Verdun, L'Arpège offers a distinctive dining experience where French culinary tradition meets the precision and sensibility of Japanese chefs. The kitchen is led by Mme. Mine and Mr. Kobayashi, who describe their cooking as “cuisine gastronomique française aux touches asiatiques” – classic French gastronomic dishes touched by the flavors and techniques of their native Japan.
This approach has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommendation, a nod to the quality and consistency of the cooking. The menu changes with the seasons, featuring dishes like foie gras, Saint-Jacques (scallops), turbot, and Galician beef, alongside amuse-bouches and a selection of fine wines and digestifs. The Asian influence is subtle but present, adding layers of flavor without overwhelming the French foundations.
The dining room is comfortable and welcoming, with air conditioning, outdoor seating, and wheelchair access. L'Arpège is open from Wednesday lunch through Sunday lunch, with reservations taken by phone. The restaurant also caters to private events and offers free Wi-Fi.
Whether you are drawn by the promise of a Michelin-recommended meal or the unique perspective of Japanese chefs working within the French culinary tradition, L'Arpège provides a refined yet relaxed setting for lunch or dinner in Tarbes.
