The story
Just outside Tours, in the quiet commune of Parçay-Meslay, L'Arche de Meslay has earned a steady following among diners who appreciate precision and pleasure in equal measure. The restaurant's Michelin Recommended status reflects the consistency and ambition of what happens in the kitchen – and the kitchen itself is part of the experience. Entirely glass-walled and open to the dining room, it allows guests to watch Chef Ludovic Launay and his team at work.
Chef Launay practices a cuisine that draws equally from land and sea – "terre-mer" in his own words – and the result is inspired, refined, and generous. The menus change with the market, but regular offerings have included Saint-Jacques aux Agrumes, Langoustines en Cheveux d'Anges, Filet de Bar Sauvage, and a Bouillabaisse Tourangelle that nods to local tradition. The wine list does the same, favouring the region's best producers. There are several menus to choose from: the Marché at 28 euros, Passion at 39, Découverte at 49, and a Gourmet option at 74 euros. A vegetarian menu and a children's menu are also available, as is a takeaway menu at 35 euros.
The feel is one of understated warmth. Chef Launay keeps a watchful eye on the dining room from his glass kitchen, and the service moves in the kind of well-rehearsed ballet that makes a meal feel effortless. Outside seating is available in good weather, and the restaurant is fully wheelchair accessible. L'Arche de Meslay is open for lunch and dinner, Tuesday through Saturday.
