The story
A ten-minute walk from the heart of Valenciennes, on the Avenue de Liège, Le Musigny offers a modern cuisine that is both personal and precise. Since 2008, Chef Emmanuel Hernandez and his wife Géraldine have run this restaurant as a family affair. Hernandez, trained at the Institut Bocuse and with experience at Guy Savoy, draws on a dual heritage: his mother and grandmothers, one from the north (Ch’ti) and the other a Spanish pied-noir, taught him the art of generous hospitality. That blend of Flemish and Mediterranean influences defines his cooking.
The dining room is welcoming and unhurried, and in fine weather a south-facing terrace offers a secluded spot for lunch or dinner. The kitchen favours seasonal produce, with dishes that move between authenticity and originality. The menu changes regularly, but certain signatures remain: the filet de bœuf façon Musigny with truffled mash, the lobster with citrus, and the “dessert du ch’ti”. Mediterranean flavours are a particular weakness for the chef, but the cooking resists easy categorisation.
Le Musigny was awarded a Michelin star in 2012 and held it for eight years; it continues to be recognised by the guide. The current offering includes a weekday lunch menu at 39 euros (starter-main or main-dessert, with a drink and coffee), a tasting menu in six services for 98 euros, and à la carte choices that highlight ingredients such as white asparagus, Radinghem snails, and lamb in two preparations. A children’s menu is also available.
The restaurant is open for lunch Tuesday through Sunday and for dinner Wednesday through Saturday evening. Takeaway and catering are available for special occasions, and the chef is happy to compose a menu on request.
