The story
"La mission de l'art n'est pas de copier la nature, mais de l'exprimer." This quote from Honoré de Balzac opens the website of Le Malu, a restaurant that brings a thoughtful, expressive touch to modern cuisine in the Vendôme region.
Le Malu is situated just outside Vendôme, on the road to Tours in the commune of Villerable. The restaurant offers outdoor seating, parking, and a takeaway option, making it accessible for both locals and travelers passing through the Loire Valley.
The kitchen changes its offerings with the seasons. The Easter menu (75 €) features an amuse-bouche, followed by dishes such as asparagus with egg and seaweed, grilled foie gras with onion, spinach and grey shrimp, line-caught pollack with morels and wild garlic, lamb prepared two ways with Swiss chard, a lemon tart, and a chocolate-hazelnut dessert, finished with mignardises. A Mother's Day menu follows a similar seasonal arc, with langoustine tartare, foie gras with artichoke and chorizo, fish of the day with shellfish and fennel, beef fillet with asparagus and chorizo, and desserts like chocolate-cherry and strawberry-elderflower.
Le Malu holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an award that highlights good quality cooking at a reasonable price. The recognition aligns with the restaurant's commitment to refined, ingredient-driven dishes without pretension.
Open for lunch and dinner, Le Malu accommodates groups of up to eight. Its combination of modern cuisine, seasonal ingredients, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a noteworthy stop in the Vendôme area.
