The story
Within the Pavillon Dufour of the Château de Versailles, Ore is a contemporary café and restaurant from Alain Ducasse. The space, redesigned by architects Dominique Perrault and Frédéric Didier, reinterprets historic decorative themes, evoking the grandeur of the Sun King through a modern lens. As Ducasse himself says, “Versailles is a dream that fascinates me. It is a privilege to be able to make a modest contribution to the history of the château.”
Ore’s kitchen offers a light and flavorful take on modern cuisine, drawing inspiration from French classics. During the day, the restaurant is open to all visitors, serving a royal breakfast from 9:00 to 10:30, a savory lunch, and an afternoon tea-time with pastries. Highlights from the menu include a smoked salmon with raw cream, a lobster roll, a well-seasoned Charolais beef tartare, and the signature Le Louis XIV dessert — a creation of chocolate from the Ducasse Manufacture with almond-hazelnut praliné. The pistachio soufflé, requiring just a ten-minute wait, is another standout.
By night, the restaurant transforms into an exclusive venue for private events, hosting grand dinners within the palace walls. This dual identity — an elegant, welcoming café by day and an exceptional table by night — has earned Ore a Michelin recommendation, affirming its place as a destination for refined, accessible dining in the heart of Versailles.
