The story
Just 800 metres from the Domaine de Clairefontaine, Le Cottage occupies a converted Dauphinois farmhouse. Here, the Girardon family—Philippe, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, his wife Laurence, and their daughter Amélie—bring their commitment to honest, flavourful cooking to a more relaxed setting. It is a place where the warmth of a family home meets the precision of a kitchen that knows its craft.
Le Cottage’s kitchen earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, a recognition that rewards good quality, good value cooking. The menu is rooted in the same local bounty that supplies the family's Michelin-starred table at the Domaine: vegetables and fruit grown on the plateau of Chonas, eggs from the property's own hens, and herbs from the garden. The influence is naturally Dauphinoise, with generous, satisfying plates designed to be enjoyed with a glass of wine from the prestigious vineyards of Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie, visible just across the Rhône.
The restaurant's setting within the old farmhouse is deliberately cosy. In cooler months, the large salon with its wood-burning fireplace invites lingering over a coffee or digestif. When the weather permits, the south-facing terrace, shaded by large parasols, becomes the heart of the experience—a spot for a leisurely lunch or dinner overlooking the peaceful countryside. The service is attentive but unhurried, reflecting the family's belief that genuine hospitality is as important as the food on the plate.
While the menu changes with the seasons, the philosophy remains constant: let the ingredients speak. This is bistro cooking at its most confident—straightforward in its ambition, precise in its execution. Whether it's a midday meal or a relaxed evening, Le Cottage offers a genuine taste of the Isère countryside, guided by a family that has made excellence their life's work.
