The story
L'Espace PH3 is the convivial, everyday face of La Pyramide, the legendary Vienne estate that has been at the centre of French gastronomy since 1822. While the upstairs gastronomic restaurant holds two Michelin stars, this ground-floor bistrot offers a more relaxed experience without sacrificing quality. The Michelin guide recognised it with a "Recommended" distinction for 2026 – a testament to its consistency and appeal.
Opened in 2009 and fully redesigned in 2020, the space is deliberately informal. Chef Patrick Henriroux, who with his wife Pascale has run La Pyramide since 1989, wanted a place for sharing and exchange. The decor, imagined by designer Régis Dho, is colourful, cosy, and filled with plants – a "vegetal" atmosphere that carries into the food. An open kitchen invites conversation, and the room hums with the easy energy of locals and travellers alike.
The cooking at L'Espace PH3 is, in the chef’s words, "adapted to gourmandise." It is instinctive and direct, built on the same network of small producers that supplies the main restaurant. Henriroux sources from around a hundred trusted farmers and artisans within a 25‑kilometre radius of Vienne, a habit he established soon after arriving in 1989. He still hits the Saturday market, the fourth largest in France, to see what’s at its peak.
The result is modern cuisine that celebrates the produce of the Vallée du Rhône: fruit and vegetables from nearby orchards, volailles de Bresse, game in season, and excellent river fish. Vegetables enjoy a privileged place on the menu – in soups, emulsions, salads, or simply slow-cooked – reflecting the chef’s own upbringing as a farmer’s son. Plates are frank, colourful, and driven by flavour rather than fuss.
L'Espace PH3 serves from breakfast through to dinner, making it a natural stop for a light lunch, a relaxed dinner, or even an afternoon pause. The wine list draws heavily on the great vineyards of the Rhône valley, and the staff carry the same warmth that defines the entire Maison Henriroux. "We are above all innkeepers," says the chef, and that spirit is palpable here.
In a house that has been welcoming guests for two centuries, L'Espace PH3 feels both modern and timeless – a place where the legacy of Fernand Point, who first earned three Michelin stars at La Pyramide in 1933, lives on in a more informal, generous way.
