The story
Since 1979, the restaurant now known as St. Benedikt has stood in the historic heart of Aachen-Kornelimünster. Chef Maximilian Kreus, a third-generation restaurateur, took over in 2011 and brings a personal, refined touch to classic cuisine. In 2026, the restaurant earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its good quality, good value cooking – a recognition that reflects the focused, ingredient-driven approach that defines the kitchen.
The restaurant occupies a listed building on Benediktusplatz, with a small, intimate dining room that seats only 24 guests. Historic details blend with a restrained, modern interior – wood, stone, clean lines. In good weather, the terrace opens onto the square for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is calm and genuine, without pretension.
The menu changes regularly. For lunch, a three-course Bistro Lunch is offered Tuesday through Friday, rooted in regional, down-to-earth ingredients. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, and Saturday lunch, the kitchen presents a multi-course gourmet menu. Service is warm and attentive, and the wine list focuses exclusively on German producers. The cooking is classic at its core, with precise technique and respect for the product – exactly the kind of Bib Gourmand cooking that satisfies without fuss.
Whether you come for a midday meal or an evening tasting, St. Benedikt delivers a genuine sense of place and a quiet, dedicated hospitality.
