The story

La Bécasse – Michelin-Starred Classic French Dining in Aachen, Germany

A Tradition of French Excellence in Aachen

La Bécasse has been a fixture on Aachen’s dining scene since 1981, when founder Christof opened its doors. For over four decades, this restaurant has built a reputation for classic French cooking, earning a Michelin star that recognises high quality cuisine. The kitchen is led by Chef Andreas, who has been at the helm since 2010, supported by a long-standing team that includes sous-chef Max (since 2010) and chef tournant Jan B. (since 1999). The staff page on their website lists twenty team members, many with years of service, reflecting a place that values continuity and craft.

The Menu: Daily Changing, Seasonally Inspired

Lunch and dinner are served Tuesday through Saturday. The menu changes daily – a printed example shows a midday menu at €49.50. A meal might begin with an amuse, followed by a starter of Marennes Oléron oysters with lemon and soy jus, or beef filet tartare with truffles and Parmesan. A vodka sorbet cleanses the palate before main courses such as halibut with lavender and Champagne, or a rib eye of US beef with mustard crust and rosemary jus. Dessert can be caramelised strawberries with vanilla ice cream and aged vinegar. The wine list is extensive, with pages dedicated to Burgundy, Rhône, Bordeaux, Alsace, Loire, Germany, Italy, and Champagne.

Atmosphere and Service

The restaurant’s own website conveys a straightforward, professional warmth. Service is led by Maitre’d Felix (since 2017), with several chefs de rang and sommelier Lothar (since 2024). Parking is available at a nearby lot. La Bécasse offers classic French cuisine in a setting that lets the food and the team’s dedication speak for themselves – a Michelin-starred experience rooted in decades of consistency.

Concept For 45 years, this stylish corner establishment has been one of Aachen's culinary institutions. Now, owner Christof Lang has taken on a young partner, Max Schafirstein, for the first time. The philosophy is clear: authentic French classics with modern lightness and a seasonal touch. Three courses at lunch, three to six courses in the evening. Culinary Style Head Chef Andreas Schaffrath cooks with a Francophile spirit, yet remains free from heaviness. Reduction, balance, and precision define dishes such as the skate salad with fennel, olive oil, and Amalfi lemon juice. Masterfully crafted sauces, precise cooking points, and aromatic clarity characterize the oven-roasted duck “the way Klaus loves it”. A pure delight to finish: Paris-Brest with nougat ice cream and candied Alba hazelnuts. Wine The list focuses primarily on France's major regions. 15 wines by the glass. Atmosphere Refined elegance paired with relaxed ease, service marked by warm professionalism. Verdict A steadfast, timelessly elegant jewel of Aachen's gourmet scene.
