The story
Since 1979, Restaurant Sankt Benedikt has been a beacon of fine dining in the heart of Kornelimünster, a historic district of Aachen. After a devastating flood in 2021, the restaurant was meticulously restored, now shining brighter than ever in its landmarked building on the Benediktusplatz. Here, owner and head chef Maximilian Kreus, a third-generation chef, continues the family legacy with a deeply personal touch. Since taking over in 2011, he has been awarded a Michelin star every year from 2012 onward, a testament to his unwavering commitment to quality.
Kreus's kitchen is a celebration of creative, classically inspired Modern French cuisine. Using only the finest ingredients, his dishes are crafted with a loving attention to detail. The result is a menu that is both refined and deeply satisfying. In the evenings, guests are treated to a carefully composed gourmet menu, while a more casual 3-course bistro lunch is available during the day. The wine list is a point of pride, featuring exclusively German wines, with expert recommendations from restaurant manager Karin Weißer.
The dining room itself is a study in contrasts, blending tradition and modernity. The historic building's character is preserved, while the interior is a study in restrained, timeless design. With space for just 24 guests, the atmosphere is intimate and welcoming. When the weather permits, the lovely terrace on the Benediktusplatz offers a delightful alternative for both lunch and dinner.
A meal at Sankt Benedikt is more than just dinner; it is an escape from the everyday. The combination of Maximilian Kreus's Michelin-starred Modern French cuisine, the warm service, and the unique setting in Aachen's historic Kornelimünster creates an experience that lingers long after the last bite. Whether you visit for a weekday lunch or a special evening out, the restaurant's dedication to its craft is evident in every detail.
