The story
The Grainer family has owned this stately inn since the 16th century. Step inside and you feel it: a place where stories linger. Hunters deliver whole deer to the kitchen door; mushroom gatherers drop off baskets of fresh porcini. In the kitchen, an old wood-fired oven still crackles, turning local produce into something deeply aromatic. Here, "nose-to-tail" isn't a trend — it's always been the way.
Chef Christian Grainer has spent more than thirty years perfecting his cooking, blending a love for his Bavarian homeland with French haute cuisine. His wife Christiane is an award-winning sommelier — Gault Millau named her "Gastgeberin des Jahres" (Host of the Year) in 2018, and the Aral Schlemmeratlas awarded her "Service des Jahres" in 2016. Together, they create an atmosphere that feels both elegant and genuinely welcoming. As the restaurant puts it: "Wohlfühlen ist Heimkommen" — feeling good is coming home.
The kitchen's hallmark is honest, ingredient-driven cooking. The menu changes with the seasons, always paying homage to the product itself. Since 1999, this commitment has earned Christian's Restaurant a Michelin star, a recognition of high-quality cooking that the team wears with quiet pride. The classic cuisine here is never fussy — just precise, flavourful, and rooted in the surrounding landscape.
The main restaurant seats just twenty guests, making each evening intimate. For larger celebrations, the elegant Stucksaal accommodates up to 150, and on warm days the summer terrace under chestnut trees opens for forty. Christiane's wine list is thoughtfully curated — one of the reasons the restaurant is noted for its interesting wine selection. A private room is also available, and vegetarian guests are well looked after.
