The story
Since 2007, Kristel and Roy Unger have run their small, personal restaurant, Im Kittchen, in the historic Neustadt of Bad Kreuznach. Housed in a protected building, the space seats a maximum of 22 guests, ensuring an intimate and attentive dining experience. The restaurant’s commitment to excellent value and quality has been consistently recognised with a Bib Gourmand from the Guide Michelin.
The culinary philosophy here is refreshingly direct. The menu is built exclusively from fresh, high-quality seasonal ingredients, sourced as locally as possible. There is no fixed menu; instead, the day’s offerings are written on a large blackboard. The heart of the experience lies in the multi-course surprise menus served in tapas format, ranging from four to nine courses. These change daily, reflecting what is best at the market. For those who prefer a vegetarian option, a four-course surprise menu is available per table. Guests who avoid alcohol can enjoy non-alcoholic cocktails or natural juices from the Nahe region’s meadow orchards.
The wine list is a point of pride, featuring selected bottles from across Germany and Europe, with a strong focus on the Nahe wine region. The restaurant highlights the area’s remarkable diversity of soil types, and regularly presents a changing “monthly winemaker” whose current wines are available for tasting. Wine pairings are offered with the surprise menus, making the most of this carefully curated selection.
Im Kittchen is open Wednesday to Saturday from 6 p.m. Reservations are taken by phone during opening hours. The restaurant also offers its intimate setting for private events, birthday celebrations, and business dinners for up to 22 guests, and gift vouchers are available.
