The story

Altes Kornhaus Beverungen: Modern German Comfort Food in a Historic Silo

The Kitchen and Regional Focus

Altes Kornhaus in Beverungen redefines German comfort food through a kitchen built on strict seasonality and regional sourcing. Raphael Nübel acquired the historic building in July 2015 and spent two months completely renovating the space before reopening it in September. His culinary approach avoids pre-made shortcuts, which sometimes means a brief wait during busy evenings. Guests can expect straightforward regional German cooking that respects local ingredients while maintaining a clean, modern presentation tailored to the community.

Wood, Light, and Original Architecture

The interior retains the raw character of its past life as a grain storage facility, blending exposed structural elements with carefully chosen natural materials. Warm wood finishes and neutral tones create a genuinely comfortable environment rather than a staged aesthetic. Large windows frame views toward the newly installed Panorama Terrace, which opened in July 2019 and extends the dining footprint into the outdoors. Every room meets accessibility standards without sacrificing the grounded, rustic charm that defines the venue.

Accolades and Everyday Service

Critics at the Schlemmer Atlas recognized this balance of heritage and contemporary taste when awarding the establishment one and a half ladles in their 2026 edition. The guide specifically noted how the modern interpretation of classic German comfort food pairs seamlessly with the extensive wooden interiors. Mornings and afternoons offer lighter options like hearty snacks and house-baked cakes before the evening service begins at five o'clock. Diners visiting on the first Sunday of any month can also join the weekly buffet spread.
