The story
Perched on a rocky outcrop high above the Rhine, Burg Reichenstein is home to Restaurant Puricelli, a dining destination that earned a Michelin recommendation for its focused, seasonal cooking. Named after the family that shaped the castle’s history, the restaurant brings a philosophy of fresh, regional produce prepared with precision and care.
The kitchen team sources ingredients from short, traceable supply chains: Bio-Kalb and wild game from Oberheimbach, Lachsforelle from the Wispertal, and Zander from the Laacher See. This commitment to local sourcing defines the menu, which changes with the seasons. The result is a style of cooking that feels both grounded and refined—a seasonal cuisine that lets the ingredients speak.
The restaurant seats up to 80 guests in its historic rooms, and on fine days the terrace opens onto sweeping views of the Rhine Valley. It is an atmosphere that balances medieval character with understated comfort. The same setting also serves a Burgfrühstück for hotel guests each morning, and an afternoon tea selection between 14:00 and 17:00.
Puricelli’s connection to wine runs deep. The Mittelrhein, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of Germany’s most dramatic wine landscapes, and the restaurant celebrates it fully. Guests can book professionally guided tastings in the newly designed wine cellar, on the terrace, or even among the vines. Since 2020, the former Puricelli vineyard around the castle has been replanted, yielding a limited-edition wine that reflects the estate’s own heritage.
Burg Reichenstein is more than a restaurant: it is also a hotel, museum, and event venue. The Puricelli dining room can be booked exclusively for private celebrations or corporate events. With its Michelin recognition and its setting in one of Germany’s most romantic landscapes, Puricelli offers a meal that feels like a genuine destination.
