The story
Since September 2000, Strandhaus has been a fixture in Bonn's Altstadt, offering a kitchen that "pampers and surprises." Owners Günter Grote-Vallée and Lucas Brockhausen, together with their crew, focus on high-quality, regularly changing dishes built on excellent produce. The style is creative, clear, and often Mediterranean – a cuisine that prioritizes flavour over unnecessary refinement.
The restaurant’s décor hints at the sea without overdoing it: a few portholes to the kitchen, some nautical pictures, and subtly placed shells. The result is a cosy, unpretentious space that feels both charming and relaxed. In warm months, the sheltered terrace invites guests to linger. The Michelin Guide 2025 notes the "pleasant, informal atmosphere" and the "charming interior" that creates maritime flair.
Strandhaus has earned consistent praise from major guides. Der Feinschmecker awarded it two Fs in 2024, highlighting its "imaginative, versatile cuisine." Gault Millau gave the wine list a Grand Selection Award for Best National Selection in 2025, while Gusto praised the "powerful, clear, often Mediterranean-oriented cooking." The restaurant is currently Michelin Recommended for 2026.
For groups, Strandhaus offers several private spaces: the "Yellow Salon" for 12–16 guests, the "Strandzimmer" for up to 24, and the main room for up to 30. The attentive, accommodating service – as noted by Gault Millau – handles special requests with ease, making the restaurant a favourite for celebrations.
