The story
Perched on the top floor of the Kameha Grand Bonn, Yunico offers an elegant dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Rhine. The name itself is a wordplay on the Japanese for "unique," and the restaurant lives up to it: this is Japanese fine dining with a modern, Mediterranean-inflected sensibility.
Chef Christian Sturm-Willms leads the kitchen, crafting dishes that Gault Millau describes as akin to a Japanese ink painting – "created with few, clever brushstrokes." His cooking balances Japanese techniques and flavors with European ingredients, a fusion that earned Yunico a Michelin star. The Gault Millau guide has also awarded the chef 17 out of 20 points and named him "Rising Star of the Year" in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Diners can choose from a multi-course tasting menu, either eight or twelve courses, available at the Chef's Table for a more intimate interaction with the chef. The restaurant boasts one of Germany's most extensive sake selections, complemented by a curated wine list. For those who prefer to learn, Yunico offers sushi-making courses and a "Sterne Academy" cooking experience.
Restaurant manager Melanie Hetzel and the team provide professional, welcoming service. The space is sleek and modern, with a private room (Yu Private) for celebrations and an outdoor terrace with the best views of the river and the Siebengebirge hills. The Michelin inspectors noted the "chic design, professional service, and creative modern Japanese cuisine with European influences."
Yunico is open Wednesday through Saturday evenings, offering a refined yet warm setting for a memorable evening in Bonn.
