The story
Brigitte and Hans-Joachim Fiedler established the kitchen in 1992 under the name Fiedlers Aalkate, building a foundation that culminated in a relocation to the center of the Meile during spring 2011. The current venue sits adjacent to the Schaufenster Fischereihafen, linking contemporary service with a lineage that traces back to 1906. This historical depth informs the Fisch & Steak philosophy, ensuring dishes respect maritime traditions while meeting current standards. The family continues to steer the direction, preserving the identity that drew guests since the initial opening.
The dining room features antique furniture and design choices that evoke the era referenced in its name, creating a setting described as unique for regular visitors. Seating arrangements include a ground-floor section with 45 places on a mezzanine elevated above the entrance area, separated by a low railing. The upper floor offers capacity for up to 90 guests once double doors are opened, providing flexibility for different group sizes. An outdoor terrace extends the space along the fish harbor, allowing diners to enjoy the waterfront atmosphere directly.
The Schlemmer Atlas bestowed two Kochlöffel upon Fiedler, specifically noting the quality of smoked fish produced through the house's own fish market operations. This vertical integration guarantees freshness for the seafood-centric menu, supporting a reputation for authentic coastal cuisine in Bremerhaven. The award underscores the reliability of the Fisch & Steak repertoire, which balances traditional recipes with consistent execution. Such recognition validates the kitchen's commitment to sourcing locally and delivering precise flavor profiles that resonate with regional palates.
