The story
At Das Esszimmer, host Patrick Berger and chef David Hoven lead a small team dedicated to straightforward, enjoyable dining. The restaurant sits in central Celle, easily reached via the B3, with parking right outside. The atmosphere is intentionally uncomplicated – whether you choose the cozy interior with modern furniture or the garden terrace, which in summer becomes a green oasis with Mediterranean flair.
The kitchen serves modern cuisine built on fresh, seasonal ingredients. The menu changes regularly; a recent “Asian Week” featured a five-course tasting menu with dishes like flambéed prawns in a lime-leaf broth, a coconut soup with roasted chili, and banana with coconut and dragon fruit. Guests can order à la carte or choose a multi-course menu (three to five courses), each available with a wine pairing or a non-alcoholic accompaniment. Vegetarian options are clearly marked, and the kitchen adapts to allergies and intolerances on request.
Das Esszimmer’s consistent quality earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026 – a recognition that reflects the care taken in both the cooking and the overall experience. The wine list, curated to complement the modern cuisine, includes aperitifs, digestifs, and thoughtful pairings for every menu.
The team also hosts private celebrations – weddings, birthdays, company parties – and will plan a custom menu for the occasion. Whether you come for a quiet dinner on the terrace or a festive gathering inside, Das Esszimmer keeps the focus on good food and genuine hospitality.
