The story
At VIDA in Dortmund, the philosophy is simple: take the best of the Ruhr region’s down-to-earth produce and blend it with the vibrant energy of Barcelona, Bangkok, and Berlin. The result is a truly international cuisine that feels both familiar and exciting. The team, led by Michelin-starred chef Michael Dyllong and hospitality veteran Ciro De Luca, has created a space where food and drinks are meant to be shared, bringing people together over good conversation and bold flavours.
The restaurant itself was designed by Swiss architect Julia Dyllong, offering a modern, stylish setting that matches the innovative menu. The atmosphere is deliberately informal and welcoming, with electronic music setting the tone for a relaxed evening. It is this combination of high-quality cooking and a cool, unpretentious vibe that has earned VIDA a place in the Michelin Guide for 2026.
Chef Dyllong’s vision is executed daily by head chef Fabian Heiermann, who shares a passion for intense, well-balanced flavours. The menu changes with the seasons, offering both à la carte options and a carefully composed VIDA menu in four or five courses. Dishes like the Lachs Sashimi “Vida Style” with wasabi, papaya, and soy, or the Tataki vom Flanksteak with artichoke and horseradish, showcase the kitchen’s confidence with international ingredients and techniques.
At the bar, Fabio Rizzo presides over what he calls the “liquid kitchen.” His drinks are as creative as the food, from classic cocktails to inventive concoctions like the Fizzed Herbs with gin and chervil. Whether you choose a full menu at a table or just drinks and small plates at the bar, the focus is always on quality and enjoyment.
For those looking to celebrate something special, VIDA offers a Private Dining Room connected to the main restaurant. With space for up to 26 guests, it provides an intimate setting for family gatherings, corporate events, or private dinners, all tailored to your preferences.
