The story
In the quiet village of Freiamt, near Emmendingen, the Gasthaus "Zur Krone" has been a fixture of warm hospitality and honest cooking. Run by the Kern family, this traditional inn focuses on seasonal, home-style cuisine that draws on the rhythms of the Black Forest countryside.
The kitchen at Zur Krone is known for its classic country cooking, prepared with an emphasis on freshness and quality. The menu changes with the seasons: in early spring, diners can order a lobster menu by advance reservation; come March and April, a lamb carrée takes center stage, followed by asparagus dishes and an Easter menu. May brings both asparagus and a special Gizzi menu. Later in the year, the range stretches from homemade slaughter plate to roast goose. It is this reliable, ingredient-driven approach that earned the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an award that recognises good quality cooking at a good value.
The atmosphere is that of a family-run Gasthaus – unpretentious, welcoming, and rooted in tradition. The restaurant offers outdoor seating in warmer months, and parking is available. Whether you stop in for a seasonal specialty or a classic country meal, Zur Krone delivers the kind of straightforward, satisfying cooking that keeps locals and visitors coming back.
