The story
For over twelve years, Il Cortile has been a fixture in the heart of Erfurt's old town. What began as a restaurant rooted in Italian tradition has evolved into a place where Mediterranean influences meet modern creativity. The Michelin guide recognises this achievement, awarding the restaurant a Recommended distinction for 2026 – a testament to its consistent quality and thoughtful execution.
Under the guidance of chef Andreas Schöppe, the kitchen combines fresh, seasonal ingredients with international flair. The menu reads like a series of well-considered compositions: a starter of trout with buttermilk and potato, scallop with hazelnut and kohlrabi, or arancini with Brie, caviar, and raspberry. Main courses include veal loin with mussels and leek, lamb rack with truffled kohlrabi, and zander with spring vegetables. Each dish is prepared with precision, balancing textures and flavours without unnecessary complexity. The Italian and Mediterranean roots are clear, but the cooking reaches beyond borders.
Owner Denise König and her team create an atmosphere that is both welcoming and professional. The dining room is cosy, and in warmer months the outdoor seating invites guests to enjoy their meal in the open air. Whether for a romantic evening or a business dinner, the service is attentive without being intrusive. Il Cortile is open Wednesday through Saturday evenings, offering a setting where the focus remains squarely on the food and the company.
