The story
In one of Esslingen's oldest inns, just steps from the Pliensauturm, Posthörnle brings a quiet, contemporary energy to a centuries-old space. The interior is deliberately understated: clean lines and a restrained palette allow the art (which rotates regularly) and, more importantly, the food to take center stage. With 42 seats inside and 20 on the terrace, the atmosphere is intimate without being precious.
Chef Heiko Wineberger leads the kitchen with a clear ethos: "In the rhythm of fresh, seasonal products, to bring together different regional cuisines and combine them in new ways – that is my philosophy." He emphasizes sustainable ingredients, with a commitment to people, the environment, and animal welfare. This approach translates into an international cuisine that is firmly rooted in local terroir – premium products from the region are creatively woven with global aromas. The Michelin guide has recognized this thoughtful cooking, awarding the restaurant its Recommended distinction.
The menu changes with the seasons, drawing on what is fresh and local. Guests can expect creative, flavorful dishes that are never fussy. Posthörnle is also happy to compose a vegan menu upon request. Children are welcome, though the kitchen asks for advance notice so they can prepare suitable dishes. The restaurant has been cooking at an ambitious, regional level since 2008, and that steady, confident hand is evident in every plate.
