The story
In the small Bavarian village of Rohrbach (part of Eurasburg), the Gasthaus Goldener Stern operates on a simple yet ambitious premise: by day it is a traditional country cooking gasthaus, by evening it transforms into a venue for casual fine dining. This dual identity is not a gimmick but a reflection of chef-owner Stefan Fuß’s philosophy—respect for tradition paired with a drive to innovate.
Stefan Fuß grew up in the family business. His grandfather ran a village pub; his parents took over in 1994 and shifted focus entirely to gastronomy. Today, Stefan leads the kitchen in the third generation, sourcing almost everything from nearby producers: vegetables and salads from local farmers, freshwater fish from Kissing, pork from Baindlkirch, and game from his father-in-law’s own hunting grounds near Rieden. The restaurant is a member of the Wittelsbacher Spezialitätenwirte, a network of regional specialty chefs, and is authorized to cook with the rare altbayerische Ochsenrasse—a breed of ox native to the area.
This commitment to quality and value earned Gasthaus Goldener Stern a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, an award that highlights good quality, good value cooking. It is a fitting nod to a kitchen that balances hearty, honest fare with more refined creations. The same chef who serves a classic Schweinbraten with Knödel at lunch also plates Lammcannelloni and Rücken auf Auberginen-Graupen at night.
Once a month, usually on the first Wednesday of odd-numbered months, Stefan Fuß presents a six-course gourmet menu (110 euros including an aperitif). The menu is deliberately left open until the day itself, shaped by what the season and local suppliers offer. These evenings are consistently booked out well in advance, a testament to the trust guests place in his cooking. The restaurant also offers a 24/7 vending machine on its parking lot, stocked with house-made Kartoffelknödel, Böfflamot, dressings, and gift vouchers—a practical nod to its rural setting.
