The story
At the Grand View Resort Beitou, the restaurant known simply as Chinese Cuisine offers a refined expression of Taiwanese cuisine, grounded in the hotel’s broader philosophy of sourcing the freshest local ingredients from across Taiwan. The kitchen’s approach is one of quiet precision, letting the quality of the produce speak for itself.
The restaurant operates within a hotel that traces its lineage to the storied Huainan Hotel of the 1960s, a landmark of Beitou’s温泉 culture. After a 40-year hiatus, the property was reimagined by architect Li Zuyuan, designer of Taipei 101, who used natural wood and stone to create a space that feels both modern and deeply connected to its surroundings. The dining room shares this sensibility – clean lines, a sense of calm, and views of the surrounding mountains.
The menu changes with the seasons, drawing on Taiwan’s rich agricultural landscape. A recent update highlights a careful selection of tea pairings, featuring high-mountain leaves from Ren'ai Township in Nantou County, grown at 1,800 meters. This attention to detail – from the tea to the sourcing of ingredients – reflects a kitchen that values substance over show.
Chinese Cuisine has earned a place in the Taiwan Michelin Guide 2023, 2024, and 2025, a recognition that aligns with the hotel’s broader reputation for thoughtful hospitality. Guests describe the food as "exquisite" and "not to be taken lightly," even within the context of a set menu. It is a restaurant that rewards a slow, attentive meal, whether you are a hotel guest or visiting specifically for the table.
