The story
Part of the family-run Hotel Dollenberg, Kamin- und Bauernstube is the more casual sibling of the hotel’s two‑star Le Pavillon. The name says it all: a “fireplace and farmhouse parlor” where wood, warmth and a view of the valley set the tone. Here, the Schmiederer and Herrmann families – who built the hotel from a small pension into a five‑star superior retreat – offer cooking that is both refined and unpretentious.
Since 2026, the restaurant has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an award that recognises “good quality, good value cooking”. It’s a fitting nod to a kitchen that lets the Black Forest’s seasonal bounty speak for itself. The menu changes with the calendar, and the team sources produce from the surrounding region. Diners come for generous, precisely executed dishes that never feel fussy – exactly the kind of honest cooking that makes a Bib Gourmand.
The interior is rustic yet comfortable, with a large tiled stove and wooden beams. In warmer months, the outdoor terrace opens to the same sweeping views that make the Dollenberg property so memorable. The wine list is a point of pride: interesting bottles from Germany and beyond, carefully chosen to match the seasonal menu. Whether you stop in after a hike or make it the destination, Kamin- und Bauernstube offers a genuine taste of the Black Forest, without the starched linen.
